The Hallie Q. Brown Archive Project is a collaborative initiative that will serve as the hub of cultural and historical exchange for one of the Midwest’s most important loci of African American history. The collection, identification and documentation of the history HQB and the surrounding Rondo Community is among the primary goals and some of the fruits of this labor can be seen in the HQB Library with exhibits profiling the first African American families in Minnesota, the history of the organization and surrounding Rondo Community and the life of Ms. Hallie Quinn Brown.
Founded in 1929, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center, Inc. is an African American, nonprofit social service agency providing programming in Early Childhood Education, Youth Enrichment, Basic Needs, Senior programming, Historical Archives and multi-service hub center programming, open to all people. With a primary focus on the Summit University neighborhood and the Twin Cities Metro area it serves as the administrative body of the Martin Luther King Center, which houses its partners offering specialized services and programs, including Project Cheer, Prepare & Prosper, the Saint Paul Branch of the NAACP, the African American Leadership Forum and the nationally recognized Penumbra Theatre Company.
