Gita Ghei, Melvin Giles, and Aki Shibata,
Library After Dark: Rondo Community Library

For more images of Library After Dark: Rondo Community Library, visit the Saint Paul Public Library Flickr album here.

The Rondo Community Library is vibrant within and a boring beige outside. The artist team of Gita Ghei, Melvin Giles, and Aki Shibata are working to portray community energy on the facade of the library. Come and join them to make your mark, and join the Library After Dark inside to participate in a community fashion parade, make a community quilt, dance, make a button, or browse materials.

The artist team of Gita Ghei, Melvin Giles, and Aki Shibata want to spread the love, peace, and light of Rondo.

Melvin Giles is a community peace builder. He has created numerous peace poles in a variety of public spaces nationwide. Melvin has built a relationship to the peace pole fabricator in Michigan. The solar light aspect is Melvin’s addition, and he has been working with a neighborhood designer and fabricator to create a prototype peace pole for production and sale. In his most recent work he co-created a night light peace pole with the Asian Economic Development Association for the Little Mekong Plaza. Melvin’s focus was the community engagement with the community to choose the featured languages. The uniqueness of the peace pole comes from community engagement and neighborhood design process. The Little Mekong peace pole is designed as such because the community wanted to bring art, light and peace to the space.
